Mary's Book Review: Happiness Now! Timeless Wisdom for Feeling Good Fast
“You do not deserve happiness; you choose happiness. Happiness is natural. It is freely available to all. It is unconditional. And when you are unconditional about happiness, then happiness merely happens! Happiness happens if you let it.”– Robert Holden. In “Happiness Now,” Robert Holden shares his personal experiences about how he began his work with The Happiness Project and shares practical tips to help readers find happiness in their daily lives.
When Holden wrote about how so much of our suffering and unhappiness is self-inflicted by our mindset, it resonated with me. So often, we think, “I’ll be happy as soon as…” you get the job, the relationship, the car, etc - but once we get that thing, we find we’re still not happy! And of course, that’s because happiness doesn’t come from things, it comes from within. This was a great reminder to always focus on the happiness we can find inside and with those we love most, not from material things. I also loved Holden’s personal stories and how he ties in quotes from the Bible, philosophers, and folk tales. This was a great book that wasn’t “preachy” or judgmental and was full of simple-to-understand techniques that I will definitely be putting into action in my daily life.
